Denmark Overview

Warm-hearted, fun-loving and free-spirited, Denmark is a traveler’s delight. Take a look at all it has to offer.

“Wonderful” Copenhagen is one of the world’s great walking cities. A cozy European capital, it’s filled with stunning architecture – classic and modern, historic sites, world-class museums, and some of the best shopping and dining in Europe.

Tops on the must-see list are the graceful statue of Hans Christian Andersen’s Little Mermaid and Tivoli Gardens, a charming all-ages “pleasure park” in the heart of the city.

After that, the choice is yours. Visit the Danish crown jewels at Rosenborg Palace. Shop on Strøget – the longest pedestrian street in Europe. Admire the eclectic art and antiquities collections at Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek. Relax at the Botanic Gardens or one of Copenhagen’s many beautiful parks. Attend a performance of the Royal Danish Ballet. Or do all of the above.

Denmark’s smaller cities offer more to explore. Odense is the birthplace of Hans Christian Andersen. Århus is a busy university city with great museums, unique boutiques and charming cafes in the historic Latin Quarter.

Or take a break in the Danish countryside, quiet and unspoiled thanks to the Danes’ love of nature and commitment to ecological consciousness.

Getting around couldn’t be easier. Danish trains are clean, fast and efficient. Highways are clearly marked and drivers are polite.

Because Denmark is so compact you can get from city to city, or city to country, in no time at all. That leaves plenty of opportunity to enjoy the many pleasures of this friendly “oasis” in Europe.
